Respiratory Viruses Slowing Down

Although we continue to have above 10% positivity for RSV from several sites, our absolute numbers seem to be slowing down. Interestingly we had more influenza B than influenza A this past week (10 flu B and 2 flu A). This becomes important when considering treatment and prophylaxis due to the fact that the first generation antiviral agents (amantidine and rimantidine) are not effective for treatment of influenza B. Rotavirus continues at all sites and we had a few respiratory adenoviruses isolated as well.
