RSV still circulating

We thought last week was the beginning of the decline of RSV cases, but alas the numbers are up this week. One of our sites is reporting 22% positivity! We are still seeing influenza B from all sites and virtually no influenza A. Adenovirus and parainfluenza also are occasionally being detected. There will be no updated graph next week, but look for new information the week of April 10th! Happy spring!

RSV fading out...Influenza B still around

As you read last week we reported a spike in influenza B cases in the county. We are still seeing some influenza B activity, but only a few cases from our reporting hospitals. Last week was the first week of <10% RSV activity. We will watch and see what happens this week. As you know levels above 10% positivity tell us that we remain in the midst of RSV season! Rotavirus is also trailing off.

Respiratory Viruses Slowing Down

Although we continue to have above 10% positivity for RSV from several sites, our absolute numbers seem to be slowing down. Interestingly we had more influenza B than influenza A this past week (10 flu B and 2 flu A). This becomes important when considering treatment and prophylaxis due to the fact that the first generation antiviral agents (amantidine and rimantidine) are not effective for treatment of influenza B. Rotavirus continues at all sites and we had a few respiratory adenoviruses isolated as well.

RSV continues to dominate

RSV is still going strong and there is almost no influenza being detected. I have included Parainfluenza and adenovirus in this week's graph, as there were three cases of each(2 PIV 2 and 1 PIV 3, and 3 respiratory adenoviruses). We are also seeing rotavirus in high numbers, at about the same levels as the previous 3 weeks.
