Respiratory Viral Update for Southern CA

We have started to see some scattered RSV in the community. Not a lot, just enough to keep us testing and reporting. We have quite a bit of parainfluenza 1 from multiple sites. As you know, parainfluenza type 1 is a common virus associated with croup and is associated with outbreaks of croup type illnesses in the fall (despite the WARM temperatures, it is fall!). Stay tuned to this blogsite for updates on RSV and influenza (eventually!).

Respiratory Viral Season 2007

Our sites have started reporting in and so far we are only having the occasional Parainfluenza virus (4 PIV type 1 from one site last week!) and respiratory adenovirus. We have not had any reports of RSV or Influenza A or B yet, but will keep this site up to date with the first sightings.
Influenza vaccines are out and now is the optimal time to vaccinate your patients.
